How the GIA WorksThe GIA works with members of the state's golf community on an ongoing basis to identify issues and opportunities, sets priorities and takes action on behalf of the industry.

However, 4 of the organization's key roles are to:

  1. Establish and maintain an effective presence before the Arizona legislature, as well as state and federal regulatory agencies, in order to represent the interests of the industry.
  2. Participate in rule-making and other regulatory processes affecting the industry, including sales and property tax regulations, the formation of "management plans" by the Arizona Department of Water Resources, effluent reuse and other regulations promulgated by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.
  3. Annual monitoring of proposed legislation, which affects the golf course industry.
  4. Sponsorship of legislation for the betterment or protection of the industry.

                                        Programs

The Golf Industry Association hosts two important events during the year:

    A.    Golf Industry Day at the Capital where members of the industry gather
at the State Capital to express concerns and educate legislators
            about the golf industry.

    B.    The Golf Summit of Arizona coordinates national and regional speakers to
address the current and forthcoming issues that will impact the industry.
Topics typically include water conservation and regulation; demographic
changes of the golfing public; immigration issues; development; and the
economic impact of golf in Arizona.
